Five Points and the City of Columbia wanted to honor the band for their positive impact on the city so local sculptors were commissioned to create a public art piece to commemorate the band. The unveiling was followed by a concert by other bands from the Five Points- Hootie era and, of course, the guys could not resist to join them on stage! They played in 5 cities across the southeast and asked fans to bring donations that would then be distributed back into that community.

The event prepares students for the academic school year by offering free dental and eye exams, haircuts and a new backpack filled with school supplies! The album didn't enjoy the same phenomenal sales as their debut, but it still performed well on the charts. In , after the band released the album Musical Chairs , Rucker began focusing on a solo career.

Rucker's newfound fame in the country realm also earned him an invitation to the Grand Ole Opry later that year, and his performance earned a standing ovation. Rucker's single eventually hit number one on the country charts, and the album received platinum status in The album's next two singles "It Won't Be Like This For Long" and "Alright" also hit the top of the charts, making Rucker the first country music singer to have his first three singles reach number one since Wynona Judd in Rucker's album also gained the attention of critics, and earned him two Country Music Association award nominations in , including Male Vocalist of the Year.

Continuing to thrive as a country music artist, Rucker released Charleston, SC in , which topped the country album chart and featured the hit "This.

The song "Wagon Wheel" earned him a win in the best country solo performance category in His most recent effort, 's Southern Style , was another success, lifted up by such songs as the title track and "Homegrown Honey. Cracked Rear View , the band's debut, racked up hit after hit, and while they didn't manage to replicate that blockbuster status, their star never diminished.

Hootie paid their good fortune forward, cutting songs by their college rock peers and thereby giving them a path toward royalties.
