The blue and gold marched 83 yards, including 70 by way of rushing attempts, down the field to again put up more points on the ground on a yard touchdown scamper by Thompson-Robinson. Along with yards on of passing, Thompson-Robinson finished the game with a team-high 99 yards on the ground and the one rushing touchdown. In just two second-half possessions, the Bruins already had the same number of rushing attempts as they did in six possessions in the first half, along with 41 more yards. After allowing yards on the ground in the first half, the Bruin defense held the Buffaloes to just 3.
Neither team would add to the scoreboard in the final 10 minutes of the game, as the two teams traded possession five times while combining for only four first downs. With the win, the Bruins have clinched their best regular-season record in four years, and UCLA now has a chance to secure its first nine-win season since should it win out. Lake said being able to hit the bowl game milestone was a particularly special moment for the seniors — most of whom have yet to appear in the postseason.
Monday, Nov. Current Arizona football coach Jedd Fisch was the interim head coach for the bowl game, after Jim Mora was relieved of his coaching duties earlier that season.
Everybody that is a part of the Bruin nation. I think the biggest thing for us is to live in the moment. Cherish it. The Bruins roster does have a small group of players who did play in bowl games with their previous programs before transferring to UCLA. He has now missed field goals in five of the last six UCLA games, including the last three games.
Jarek Broussard ran for yards and Alex Fontenot thrived in short-yardage situations, scoring on two one-yard touchdown runs. Kicker Nicholas Barr-Mira missed a field-goal attempt for the fourth consecutive game — he also missed an extra point in the third quarter when the ball hit the left upright — and the Bruins committed seven penalties for 42 yards by halftime.
In a symbol of their massive cleanup efforts, the Bruins committed only two penalties in the second half. The narrative had changed considerably, the fans heading home satisfied for the first time in more than two months and with an extra game to watch over the holidays.
Ben Bolch has been a Los Angeles Times staff writer since He is serving his second stint as the UCLA beat writer, which seems fitting since he has covered almost every sports beat except hockey and horse racing. He happily traded in gobs of hotel points and airline miles to return to cover UCLA basketball and football in the summer of Not only would the players get a better defensive coordinator, but they would also replace Kelly who has clearly not given Bruin fans their money worth.
Of course, replacing a coach means finding a replacement. Fickell should be at the top of the list for the reasons listed above. I especially like the idea of using Mick Cronin to help land Fickell. Not only was Aranda a heck of a defensive coordinator, but he falls into the category of up-and-coming coach. He also now has two years of head coaching experience. His first year was rough. This year, he has the Bears back near the top of the Big 12 standings with an mark.
It bears remembering that Aranda grew up in California and played his college football at Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks. His wife is also from California. I think that he would be open to coming back home. Another potential choice could be former Texas head coach Tom Herman.
Those would be my top three choices if Martin Jarmond asked me who he should hire to replace Chip Kelly. Go Bruins!!!
