What kind of seeds grow quickly

These are a favorite with my children because of the huge, colorful blossoms. Flower blossoms are gorgeous, especially for a child who has started it from a seed, but there are other fast-growing seeds they can plant as part of classroom activity.

Grass is fast-growing and is a great plant for the classroom. As was mentioned in the first video, the pot can be painted to look like a person, animal, or cartoon character. When the grass grows, it resembles hair standing straight up. The reason is that it produces a lot of foliage. Beans and peas are common choices for science activities.

They germinate in seven to 10 days and grow to produce edible results. These crystal-clear PET plastic cups are safe for children.

They have no sharp edges and are heavy-duty. Children can handle them, drop them, and squeeze them. These strong plastic cups come in four colors which make it easy to identify the type of seed that was planted. For example, you can use one color for nasturtiums and a different color for beans. With four colors, you can have a good variety of plants, and it makes labeling easier. These cups are strong, so if you have some children that plan to transplant their plant into a pot or garden, you can ask them to bring back the cup and use it again the next year.

Instead of plastic cups, you can also use plastic pots. These are the pots I use for seed planting in my classroom. These colorful pots are the most durable and the most expensive.

The colors are useful for identification. Each child can have a particular color, or the colors can be used to identify the type of seed.

If your children plan to grow flowers as a gift for their mothers, these pots look great. Each package contains eight pots, so you may need several packages for your class. This is a professional-grade, recyclable plastic tray for seed starting. With a pack, you can get two, five, or 10 with clear plastic domes that make a mini-greenhouse. The coconut coir helps the mix retain moisture so the seedlings will last a day or two without being watered. And, if you are interested in eating the sunflower seeds, a popular healthy snack, you will need to wait an additional one month before doing so.

Furthermore, sunflowers are able to grow between three to six feet tall depending on the climate and how they are cultivated. Although the sun is the most important necessity for the sunflower, it is also essential to make sure they are protected from the wind for ultimate protection.

Starting from seed, petunias could take up to 10 weeks to fully grow. They develop best in full sun but can handle a small amount of shade if necessary. Be prepared with kitchen roll as the foliage can be sticky and any blossoms that have been recently rained on are likely to turn to slimy mush. However, if you are planting newer varieties of petunias they will not require deadheading but will be grateful for pinching or shearing every now and again.

You will know when it is time do this as the branches will begin to get longer and you will be able to see where previous flowers lived. Nigella, also known as Love-in-a-Mist, Devil-in-a-Bush and more is an easy flower to plant and grow.

This fast-growing flower is best in cool growing areas with a well-drained PH-neutral soil. Amazingly, the seeds could sprout in just eight to fifteen days, which when you think about it, is no time at all! For best results plant them towards the end of April or later with a spacing of 30cm between each plant. Furthermore, considering nigella seeds usually blooms in just a few weeks, we recommend sowing the seeds at least two times between late spring and early summer.

This way you are likely to witness beautiful colours of purple, pink, white and blue. Learning Resources. Here are some great ideas for fast growing seeds — perfect for kids!

Although many types of squash seeds work well, pumpkin seeds are a good choice because they're large and children usually know about them from Halloween. Green beans are common choices for science projects. They germinate dependably in 7 to 10 days and are easy to handle.

The beans themselves also resemble beans that children recognize from their food, helping them learn what seeds are and how plants create them. Beans also produce a good-sized, sturdy shoot that's easy to use for projects that require observation of the plant's later growth. Pea seeds are also dependable growers and look like a vegetable that children know.

A little harder to handle than beans, they're still a good option and germinate in 7 to 10 days. Science projects don't often include flower growing because the seeds are usually very small.
